Macedonia: Farms to Get Software to Monitor Production

Hundred farms in Macedonia will be provided with free software to monitor production in a bid to boost quality and yield. By using information and communication technology, farmers will also have an insight into profits eliminating any possibilities for manipulation during purchase of products.

This is envisaged by a project for which a memorandum of cooperation was signed Friday by the Federation of Farmers, the Agency for Agriculture Promotion and Development, and Slovenia’s Datalab company.

The project aims at advanced farm management through bookkeeping, good agricultural practices and registering agro technical measures.

"By introducing software in fact foundations are being laid for a modern and intensive agriculture in Macedonia," the Agency’s director Igor Zlatkov said.

It is high time information technology to lend a hand to agriculture, according to Datalab’s Andrej Mertelj.

"The objective is to reduce bureaucratic costs and time needed for administrative procedures, to improve food quality and yield," he noted.

"The bookkeeping software is expected to significantly alleviate the work of manufacturers and fend off any manipulation," said the Federation’s president, Nikola Stamenov.
